Well we made it back from "Rockfest" and it was a GREAT show. We got to the Chicago Speedway in time to see THIRD EYE BLIND, BARENAKED LADIES, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, KID ROCK, and of course - the whole reason for going - METALLICA. THIRD EYE BLIND had more songs that I knew than I realized, so they were pretty good. BARENAKED LADIES just didn't belong at this show. Their attempt at humor by covering Lionele Ritchie, Britney Spears, Emimem and other crap did not win this crowd over at all. STONE TEMPLE PILOTS really kicked ass - a great set of hits and Weiland is more psycho than ever with his flaming red mohawk. As of 6:30pm 97,000 people had entered the grounds. We were about 50 feet from the stage through KID ROCK when the mosh pits were really kicking in and since Lori couldn't even see the Jumbo Tron above the stage, we retreated to the grandstand for METALLICA. They played a short (the shortest I've seen since they were an opening act) but very sweet 90 minute set. This show featured the best sound I've ever heard at any outdoor show, quite possibly the best sound of any show I've seen. "Sad but True" had a slow winding down sort of ending I had never hear (or at least noticed) before. Jaymz was very active despite his recent injury and missed shows. METALLICA was joined by KID ROCK for a duet of "Turn The Page", and following "Enter Sandman" the night ended with a sick 20 minute fireworks barrage. By about 2:30am we were peacefully sleeping in our rental car and flew back to Boston early Sunday morning.
