| Well, the opening date of the Summer Sanitarium Tour on Friday June 30th was as awesome as expected. SYSTEM OF A DOWN played for about a half hour and though the volume seemed low and they were playing only to a half filled stadium they kicked ass. POWER MAN 5000 was next and really got the crowed whipped up into a frenzy. Next came KID ROCK - who I think is one of the most over rated things in music today - but he puts on a helluva live show. A loud, energetic affair complete with pyro and strippers. KORN suffered through some audio problems, the lead vocals kept dropping out. But they persisted for a great set that had the whole stadium bouncing. Then it was time for the mighty METALLICA to show everyone why they rule the world. A very cool stage with four large video screens that often showed four different views of the action. The set list was full of classics - "Creeping Death", "For Whom The Bell Tolls", "Seek & Destroy", "Fade to Black", a cool combo of "Master of Puppets" and "Sanitarium", "Battery" plus some newer stuff that I got to hear live for the first time, "Turn The Page" and "I Disappear". They played for about 2 hours and 20 minutes and had a slammin' punk encore of "Last Caress", "So What" and "Die Die Die My Darling". Check out www.MetOnTour.com for some pictures and the complete set list. |
