MAXIMUM ROCK - Megadeth & Mötley
Crüe
Anthrax was supposed to be part
of this tour but they were recently removed for still cloudy reasons which change
depending on who is telling the story. I haven't met anyone besides myself who
was looking forward to seeing them though.
Megadeth played a no frills, very tight set with a stark stage featuring nothing more than a gray curtain with their name behind them. At the start the crowd was very sparse but built up to 10,000 by the end of their set. Tunes included; "Holly Wars...Punishment Due", "Bread Line", "Needle Use The Man", "She Wolf", "Tout Le Monde", "Crush", "Almost Honest", "Sweating Bullets", "Symphony of Destruction", and "Trust" with an encore of "Peace Sells But Who's Buying?". They have recently completed a new CD which should be released in September.
Motley Crue are out supporting their
new studio release "New Tattoo".
Their
first new music without Tommy Lee. The disc is not selling well but I highly
recommend it. Tommy Lee has been replaced by Randy Castillo, but he had an emergency
appendectomy earlier this summer and is out for this tour. Filling in on drums
is Samantha Maloney from HOLE and she was great. She really seems to be enjoying
herself and adds some freshness to the band. Vince - who has recovered from
being hit in the head with a bolt thrown by a fan in Hartford last Saturday
- pointed her out many times thru the night and the crowd really supported her.
The show was just none stop hits and the whole crowd was insane from start to finish. The stage set was a two tiered ramp with a seedy side of town background with neon strip shop and tattoo parlor signs. It looked the set from a play, with working doors that Vince entered from, as did the new "Nasty Habits" - two female backup singers. The show burst open with "Kickstart My Heart", "S.O.S", "Primal Scream", "Punched In The Teeth By Love" - new tune from "New Tattoo that I really love - "Dr. Feelgood", "10 Seconds to Love", "Home Sweet Home", "Don't Go Away Mad...", "Piece of Your Action", "Wild Side", "Hell On High Heels" - the first single from New Tattoo - "Looks That Kill", "Helter Skelter", "Girls, Girls, Girls" with encores of "Too Young To Fall In Love" and "Shout At The Devil".
I think this was my 14th time seeing
Motley Crue - and they one of the very few bands who have never left me disappointed.
